Isshuukan Friends: Episodes 4 – 8

 Fighting with Friends: Episode 4

Isshuukan Friends translates to One Week Friends in English, which is a fitting title for Kaori Fujimiya’s circumstances. Fujimiya-san suffers from amnesia regarding any events related to any and all friendships. In order to save herself from the pain of not knowing her friends the next day she isolates herself from her classmates and avoids small talk when possible, which makes her appear cold and self-righteous. Her memory overwrites the times she spend with her friends, causing her to forget everything on Mondays. Despite her condition, Hase-kun seeks the chance to get to know her better and potentially become friends. In the first few episodes he proposes the idea that she keeps a diary to remember her memories with him. Everyday he greets her by asking if they can be friends and she reads her diary to regain her memories of the previous day. In Episode 4 Fighting with Friends Fujimiya-san gets into a fight with Hase-kun on Friday because she continuously mentions how amazing Kiryu-kun is at lunch. Jealousy sets in and Hase-kun snaps… not in the traditional way that involves yelling and intense screentones, but in a “beat around the bush/shy, but passionate” kind of way.

Traditional SNAP

Hase-Kun SNAP…. Notice the difference (″・ิ_・ิ)??

Fujimiya-san takes it like a champ in my opinion. She stands up declares she’s had enough of his obsessive demeanor and storms out with a sassy hair flip!! Hehehe just kidding…. he says that he’d rather talk about themselves again, and he prefers if she doesn’t speak about Kiryu all the time. (He’s a little on the coo-coo side if you ask me… you know the “I ONLY WANT YOU TO MYSELF! YOU’RE MINE! MINE! ALL MINE! DON’T TALK TO ANYONE ELSE OKEYYY BECAUSE YOU’RE MINEEEE!!!!” type, except I feel like he would forcefully whisper it with his quiet little voice.) Anyway back to my what actually happened, Fujimiya-san calls him a jerk and then storms out saying says, “You don’t understand why I’m talking about Kiryu! You don’t understand anything! Don’t follow me!”

She proceeds to loose her journal when a cute boy on a bike accidentally bumps into her and on Monday she doesn’t recall ever talking to Hase-kun or writing in a journal. In other words she almost had to start over from the beginning, but she remembered Kiryu-kun because they technically aren’t friends, and he convinces her to talk to Hase-kun. They fix things and he goes on a hunt in the grass where the hot biker boy knocked her journal out of her bag. They get all emotional with each other and he finds it then she goes home until the next day in episode 5 when EVERYTHING CHANGES … for the better!

New Friends: Episode 5

FUJIMIYA-SAN GETS A NEW FRIEND!!!!! AHHHH its great ( ❝̆ ·̫̮ ❝̆ )✧!  Yamagishi Saki, Fujimiya-san’s petite forgetful classmate, follows her onto the roof and introduces herself. She announces that she wants to be friends and Fujimiya is thrilled. Immediately they begin calling each other by their first names, Saki-chan & Kaori-chan. According to Hase-kun, Saki-chan’s a little pushy about saying hi to her in class and greeting her with hugs in the morning. (He’s probs just jelly that their friendship is flourishing faster than his did (✧≖‿ゝ≖). ) Before she forgets again, Kaori explains to Saki-chan her predicament. It’s difficult for Saki to understand at first, but she still manages to tell Kaori-chan that she should enjoy life and stop worrying so much about forgetting things, because everybody forgets things sometimes.

Later that day the two friends go on a shopping spree and hang out together at the mall. Hase-kun finds out and drags Kiryu-kun along for a few hours of stalking. After peeping around corners and hiding behind vending machines he realizes that she’s safe and having lots of fun. When its time to go home Yamagishi-chan screams, “See ya later!” and Fujimiya-san does the same. In this episode she really begins to change and become more open to the idea of friendship and confiding in others.

Just a little comparison:

(Top to Bottom: Saki-chan,  Kumin Senpai)

Saki-chan reminds me a lot of Kumin Senpai from Chuunibyou Demo Koi ga Shitai. I don’t know if it’s just me, but they definitely have the same type of personality. They’re both somewhat ditsy and forgetful. Senpai loves to sleep like anyone else, but to me they both give off the same “I’m just in this world to be me, sleep, and have fun with my friends!” vibe. Either way they are both adorable and super kawaii! (Comment if you agree or disagree. I’d love to hear from you!)

Mother of Friends: Episode 6

Screen Shot 2014-06-05 at 8.49.55 AM

Not much happened in this episode but Hase-kun begs Kaori-chan, the great mathematician, to tutor him. He asks nervously with his head bowed as they stand in their usual spot on the rooftop. She giggles & blushes then says, “Okay, we can go to my place!” As shy as he is Hase-kun immediately turns to Kiryu and asks if he will accompany them. Oddly enough at the same time Saki-chan comes busting through the door and falls at Fujimiya-san’s feet asking to be tutored and so Kaori-chan finally gets to experience what its like having friends over.

Saki-chan makes herself right at home and jumps right onto Kaori’s bed for a nice nap. Oka-san makes snacks and introduces herself to her daughters’ friends. She slips a note to Hase-kun on his way out the door asking if he will meet her in the park the next day to discuss things. When they meet we learn that Fujimiya-san was in accident when she was six. She got hit by a car and was taken to the hospital where she was unconscious & slept for several days. The doctors said there was nothing wrong with her brain, but for some reason she couldn’t remember her friends. Her mom proposes the idea that she may have what we call “selective amnesia”, meaning that she purposely blocks out events with her friends for fear of being hurt. * Alright! On to the next episode!! ٩꒰ ˘ ³˘꒱۶~♡ *

Friends of ‘Ah’ Friends of ‘Whew’ & The Beach with Friends: Episodes 7 & 8

Screen Shot 2014-06-05 at 9.55.03 AM

In episodes 7 & 8 Hase-kun steps up his game in the relationship department–a little bit! He asks Fujimiya-san to help him study for finals… alone… and so their friendship begins turning into the long heart-fluttering journey we call love. They meet in Inoue Sensei’s classroom to study math… and lets just say they don’t get much studying done. Literally, they don’t study, but nothing else happens either, you know? Not even the oldest trick in the book when the girl drops her pencil and the boy picks it up only to see her staring at him all googly eyed falling in love or when she trips and falls on top of him on all fours. I’m not asking for ecchi or anything that intense but come on. You’d think there’d be some fan service right about now, but no… just two buddy ol’ pals sittin’ in a room blushing for hours. Despite the lack of lovey dovey situational service Hase-kun does begin confessing how cute, reliable, and smart she is. He starts to take back the comment about her being cute because he’s nervous, but she simply says that she doesn’t believe it.  Then he shouts, “It’s true!” (I told you he’s getting more passionate!! This time he added a forceful shout instead of his usual passionate/nervous whisper that I mentioned earlier. (´ε` )♡)

Next in episode 8 Kaori-chan exclaims that she would love to go to the beach! Hase-kun jumps at the thought of going to the beach with her and he pushes the envelope a bit by mentioning that he’d love to go the beach alone with her!!!! Unlike most teenage girls who dream of taking a trip with the boy they love Fujimiya-san proceeds to say, “I’m too embarrassed to go with you on my own, so maybe another time…” ……….. I’m sorry. WHAT?!?!?! How could she pass on the perfect opportunity to go to the BEACH WITH THE BOY SHE OBVIOUSLY LIKES?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? I’m physically shedding tears…they are so naive and pure.

Even Kiryu-kun agrees.

But here’s the real shocker ٩◔̯◔۶. When they were sitting alone looking at the ocean at night she said:

“I LIKE FIREWORKS????!!!!!” THAT’S WHAT YOU CAME UP WITH? I LIKE F.I.R.E.W.O.R.K.S! (ಥ﹏ಥ) I literally screamed when she said that.

Ah, this moment is too emotional. I can’t bring myself to watch episode 9 right now. ༼ ༎ຶ ෴ ༎ຶ༽ I’ll come back to blog that post later. Until then, see ya later.
